Should Schools Begin Classes Later Every Morning?

Mimo Yeh

Getting up early is really difficult for most people, but it is not the reason to begin classes one or two hours later every morning.

We always want everything to follow our minds, but there is something that we need to be responsible for. Although there are some personal reasons why people want to begin classes later, I do not agree with it because of the necessity for early classes, and the problem for delaying early classes.

The reason that people want to begin classes later is not having enough time for sleeping. Nowadays most teenagers like to stay up late; however, it is not for studying but for pending much time on social contacts and recreations. To make more time for sleeping, people propose that classes should begin one or two hours late.

In my opinion, making a good management of time is more practical than changing the time of beginning classes. As a student, social contacts and recreations are necessary, but we need to make a balance between them and lessons. We cannot just delay the time for classes to make more time for leisure activities.

Beginning class later may result in reduction in the time for studying and in the contents of courses. The problem is that we need to spend more time to make up for the time we lose in the morning. We ask to delay early classes but our scheduled courses still need to be finished. If we also want the courses to be completed as planned, inevitably, we may need to shorten the summer or winter vacation.

The amount of time we need for our study or work will not change. It seems that starting classes later is beneficial. However, everyone has responsibilities for the choice of his or her own life. No matter what kinds of choices we make, we still have to make time to do what we are supposed to do.
