School Rules: Eating in the Classroom

There are many rules made by the school authority or teachers. Most of these rules are used to prevent students from immoral or impolite behavior. However, these rules might make students feel inconvenient sometimes. Many college students may have other activities or part time jobs between classes; some students may have classes at the campuses of downtown and Hwa Kang. They may have no time to buy something to eat. Therefore, I think that eating in the classroom should be okay as long as students would take away the garbage they made and keep focus on the classes. And the most important is that they should not influence other students and teachers.

The first thing which would make eating in the classroom forbidden is that students would leave the garbage in the classroom. It would seriously influence the students who have other classes later in the same classroom. A messy classroom would not only make students feel uncomfortable, but also make the teacher feel disrespected. However, if students can have self-discipline, this problem could be easily solved. Therefore, in my opinion, instead of forbidding eating in the classroom, cultivating the quality of students would be more important.

Second, eating in the classroom may distract students from classes; however, hunger may also make students distracted from classes as well. In my view point, if students can eat something like bread, toast, or rice ball, then no one would be distracted. Eating the food which is simple and convenient for eating, students can focus on the class and solve the problem of having no time to eat lunch.

Third, as long as you do not eat food like stinky tofu, or instant noodles, you can decrease the influence on classmates and teachers. If you will not influence your classmates and teachers, eating in the classroom would not be a bothering thing.

It may be impolite to the teachers who are serious about teaching and learning; however, students need to have enough energy for classes too. It is very important to have vigor in order to learn. If students are hungry, how can they concentrate on the lesson? Compared with being distracted because of being impatient to have their lunch, I think that eating would be politer in some way.

Eating in the classroom should be not strictly forbidden. It not only benefits students but also makes them feel grateful to teachers. It is beneficial to both teachers and students, as long as both teachers and students can be more considerate of each other.
