Living in the Country or Living in the City?

Evan Chuang

Nowadays, many people like to live in the city because cities develop fast. On the other hand, countries fall more and more behind the cities. Thus, cities and countries have many differences. Generally, people like to live in the city because the city has good transportations, many job opportunities, and good living functions.

First of all, cities have many kinds of transportations. For example, Taipei has the MRT system which can take us to many places in the Taipei area, including Taipei 101, National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, and many famous tourist spots. Tourists can enjoy traveling around Taipei city by the MRT system. And the shuttle buses can also take us to hypermarkets; for example, Miramar’s shuttle can take us to Miramar from Jiantan MRT station to Neihu. So we do not worry about the transportation when we travel around the city. By contrast, there are only a few transportations in countries. For example, Dahu, one of Miaoli’s towns, has no train station. So, if you want to go to Dahu to pick strawberries, you must take a bus or drive a car. It is not convenient for the people who live there and the tourists.

Living in the cities, we can have a lot of job opportunities and get good jobs more easily. For example, if I want to be an anchor, I must enter the TV company to get this job, and I have to live in the city or near the TV company. But if I live in the country, I can’t be an anchor. I have to find another job for a living.

In the aspect of living functions, people who live in the city enjoy more convenient lifestyle. For instance, if they want to use the newest liquid laundry detergent, they can go to the supermarket nearby to buy it. By contrast, people who live in a country do not enjoy such convenience. If they want to use the latest items, they must go downtown to buy them. Maybe they can only get the newest items after quite a long time.

Personally, I prefer to live in the city rather than living in the country, because I think living in the city has more benefits than living in the country. Living in cities also has many other advantages that I did not mention above. Considering the three differences between living in cities and countries, which place do you prefer to live in?
