It is better for children to grow up in the countryside than in a big city. Do you agree or disagree?

I think it’s better for children to grow up in a big city than in the countryside.  Although children growing up in the countryside are more innocent, they are less competitive.  For example, my cousin was raised in the countryside.  Not making much effort, he could get high grades and top ranking in a small junior high school which had about thirty students in one class and two classes in one grade.  However, after attending high school in a big city, he found that hardly could he adjust himself into the new environment.  He couldn’t get high grades as he did before because there were too many talented students.  Moreover, his English proficiency fell behind others drastically because he had never gone to a cram school before.  Realizing the importance of this, he went to a cram school right away.  However, it had to take a long time for him to catch up with others and his new teacher’s teaching progress.  In addition, he found his new classmates calculative.  As a pure child, he was not able to handle it.  After growing up, we have to enter the complicated and competitive society, so I think it’s better for us to be well-prepared to confront with any kinds of obstacles.  A big city exactly provides us with this kind of environment in which we equip ourselves with all kinds of life skills so that we can have courage and ability to deal with challenges in our life.  That is, it’s better for children to live in a big city than in the countryside.
