The Death Penalty Should Be Abolished

The issue about whether the death penalty should be abolished or not has been heatedly debated recently. The government tends to abolish the death penalty. However, there are many opposite views about this issue. The public security and crime rate are still the problems in the society. Before these situations are improved. I think the death penalty is necessary in Taiwan now.

There are ninety four countries which have abolished the death penalty up to now, including mostly European Union Countries. Most developed countries already abolished the death penalty except Japan, USA, and Singapore. In these countries, execution rate is also reduced. Most countries start to value human rights. Abolishing the death penalty is a trend in the world.

I think the death penalty shouldn’t be abolished in Taiwan, because there are many differences between Taiwan and other countries, in the aspect of education, environment, culture, and laws. We shouldn’t follow other countries blindly.

According to the view of human right activists, indeed, as human beings, we don’t have rights to determine a person’s life and death. However, murderers should pay the price for their criminal acts.

I have no sympathy for murderers and their family. The family should be responsible for the violent behavior of the criminals. And the victims’ family should be sympathized, shouldn’t they? We are not the person involved and haven’t the standpoint to claim that the death penalty should be abolished. We can never know the pain of victims’ family.

In conclusion, I think the murders deserve the death penalty due to their serious crimes. We should give our sympathy to the victim’s family rather than the murder’s family.
