Smartphone addiction means that people overly use the smartphones, which leads to influences on people’s physical or psychological well- being. It is reported that over-reliance on smartphones is very harmful. There are some serious negative effects of smartphone addiction.

Smartphone addiction seriously affects sleep. Many people use the smartphone before sleep. However, the blue light from the smartphone screen affects the production of melatonin, which is the key to good sleep quality. Therefore, playing the smartphone before going to bed not only shortens people’s sleeping time, but also worsens the sleep quality.

Overly using the smartphones may cause psychological stress. Frequent notification messages on the smartphones not only increase people's dependence on the mobile phone, but also develop the habit of constantly checking the phone. People will be anxious about the phone not at hand or the phone running out of power. For these reasons, people cannot focus on what they are doing, which will bring negative effect on their work and life.

Overusing smartphones will destroy a relationship. In the past, people talked and interacted with each other face to face, but nowadays, most people only need to unlock their mobile phones, type some words and transmit them to connect with others. However, most people alienate themselves from their friends by bowing their heads to play smartphones instead of talking to them in the gatherings.

As the development of technology, the 3C products make people’s life more and more convenient. Although smartphones bring us a lot of benefits, we have to notice that there are bad effects if we overuse them, and we should try to mitigate the negative impacts of using smartphones as possible as we can.
