Should Classes Begin Later?

Dorcas Ding

When classes begin is quite a popular topic between my friend and me. I am a junior now, but I sometimes think why I have many classes at eight a.m. Why can’t we begin classes hours later? My answer is that we don’t need to begin classes one or two hours every morning because those early morning classes are good for making us go to bed early, cultivate the good habit of eating breakfast, and develop a good attitude for our future work.

When I was a freshman in the university, I had four classes at eight a.m. It forced me to go to bed early. Everybody knows it is hard for college students to go to bed early because we want to do something different from the routines of senior high school students. We love to spend time hanging around with friends, joining activities, or having some personal enjoyment. However, I really feel we need to have a healthy body so that we can try many wonderful things in our life. If we don’t have good sleep, we can’t have good learning of many things. Thus, I agree that we have a class at eight o’clock in the morning so that we can go to bed early.

Secondly, it is easy for me to skip breakfast if I don’t have a class at eight o’clock. I think it is bad for my body. Without any classes at eight o’clock, I almost get up at ten. And then I will skip breakfast and just eat lunch. As a result, I got into trouble with my stomachache. Thus, I learn that having a regular eating habit is important, and the morning class makes me keep a good habit of eating breakfast.

Finally, the morning class makes me develop a good attitude toward work. It is important that we need to do everything on time, and the morning class in the university offers us good chances to cultivate the important habit of being punctual. I believe the ones who can be on time for classes are likely to have good control of time at work, and a good management of time is indispensable for us to have satisfactory job performance.

To sum up, I really feel early morning class are good for making me go to bed early, eat the best meal--breakfast, and develop a good attitude toward study and work. Many university students don’t like the morning classes because of a lot of personal reasons, but I think they overlook the significance of those morning classes.
