Differences Between Private Senior High Schools and Public High Schools

Nowadays, there are many schools in Taiwan; hence many people have choices for the school that suits them the best. Private and public high schools have lots of differences, such as in costs, qualities of education, and performance of students. However, both of them have their advantages and disadvantages, and it depends on one’s own preferences and choices to get into an ideal school.

Generally speaking, it is much cheaper to attend a public high school than a private one. For example, tuition for a private high school costs around NT$50,000 per year. But in the public schools, the tuition cost only NT$20,000 per year. Both of them still have other costs, like cafeteria food services, textbooks and maybe the medical services.

In private high schools, student may need to stay in school for ling hours. Some of them even have nighttime study hours, and teachers have to supervise the students with their studies. In contrast, public schools are not so strict. Students may not need to stay in school at night. On the other hand, some of the teaching equipment of private schools is better than that of the public school. They have their air-conditioned classrooms because their tuitions are much more expensive. In contrast, most classrooms in the public schools don’t have air conditioners.

In public schools, many students will study by themselves because teachers won’t press students for studying. So if student can’t control themselves, their grade may descend. However, in the private schools, there is usually more than one teacher to manage a class, and students are required by their students to study hard.

No matter private or public high schools, both have advantages and disadvantages. So if students can take advantage of the merits of the school they can learn well.
