Line or E-mail

Anita Wu

The practice of sending and receiving messages through Line, an instant messenger, is more popular than ever. However, there are many people who still prefer to communicate with others by using emails. To me, both Line and emails are really fast and convenient, and they deliver messages in good quality. Yet, I prefer Line to emails because the former has some features that the latter does not.

One of the biggest features of Line is voice messages and video calls. The existence of these two functions has indeed changed the way people communicate with others. We do not have to type many words now; instead, we send messages in verbal communication. By contrast, with emails, we only have one choice to communicate with others – typing. But, even if typing may be more formal than verbal communication, speaking with others really save us much time.

Next, photos can be taken and categorized by using Line. In Line, all photos uploaded by users can be classified into different albums, which help people find their pictures more quickly. In contrast, if we send photos through emails, all photos will just be mixed together; it is not that easy to find specific or special pictures.

Lastly, we can make free calls anywhere and anytime through Line. Through free calls, we can even use international calls with up to 200 people. That means, if people who don’t understand the message well, they can ask questions and get answers instantly. Using emails, we thus lack this handy function when we contact others because typing is the only choice to us.

In conclusion, I think Line is more convenient than emails because most people are busy nowadays. Although emails represent a more formal way than Line when sending messages to others, the advantage of Line lies in its multiple functions which are convenient to many people now. So I think this kind of communication software is the trend of this era.
