Nature Beauties of Yangmingshan National Park

Yangmingshan National Park, the favored recreation spot for the residents in Taipei, is most renowned for its spring blossoms. The colorful flowers, ever-changing clouds, and various species of wildlife and plants—all leave the visitors with the pleasant realization of the unceasing energy of life. However, its beauty is not limited only to the month-long blooming season; it also prevails during the leaves-falling autumn time.

With spring breezes lightly blowing, many plants, after the long and cold winter, begin to grow. Flowers bloom everywhere and every field is covered with green grass again. The sweet chirps of the birds on the branch raise the life curtain of the earth. The busy wasps shuttle from one side to another among the flowers. Butterflies and frogs dance and sing in the wilderness. All living creatures seem to wake up to greet the brilliant spring time. As this time, Yangmingshan National Park is like a giant flower basket. The cherry blossoms, plum blossoms, and azaleas flowers in full blossom attract thousands of visitors each spring. These gorgeous white, red and pink flowers dot Yangmingshan National Park with bright colors. Besides, the sunshine which lights the mountain up again with its powerful energy drives out the chilly air of the winter. Wild peonies and begonias also extend their stems; the leaves of trees sweetly and tenderly green the mountain.

Although not as brilliant and colorful as the spring time, autumn is the best time to enjoy changeable colors of leaves at Yangmingshan National Park. When the leaves gradually turn yellow and the breeze turn chiller, mountain fog and wild orchids dot the autumn Yangmingshan, turning the hillsides into a bluish-yellow. The mantis, tumblebugs, cicadas, and grasshoppers can be seen everywhere in the dense forest. The ants and bees would be busy preparing and storing food for their winter-sleep. The winds of autumn sometimes blow leaves to the ground. The visitors may kick through the blanket of leaves on the ground. Besides, the mountain full of red, brown, and yellow leaves, plus the flowers of Miscanthus sinensis that dance under the wind, forms the magnificent picture of the “Tatun Autumn” which is known as one of the top ten Taipei sceneries. Although the altitude is only around 700 meters, during the autumn months Yangmingshan can be a little cold and damp. The rain will be falling down on Yangmingshan for a period. The clouds will often stay around the peaks and form a “straw hat” form. The wind gaps at the tops of the main peaks always make Yangmingshan National Park misty. However, these scenes show the beauty of nature in a different context.

Yangmingshan National Park, declared the Island’s third national park, following Kenting and Yushan, dominates Taipei’s skyline. Abound with wildlife resources and natural beauties in the spring and autumn time. Yangmingshan National Park is really a “nature paradise” always waiting for your visit.
