The Disadvantages of Online Games

More and more people like to play online games. Some people may think it’s a good way to meet friends, but others may think those friends in online games are not “real”. I think there are many disadvantages of online games. First, many teenagers spend too much time playing online games. Even some children don’t want to do homework because they just want to play those games. One of my cousins must play online games every day. He spent about five hours a day playing these games. His parents tried to let him concentrate on his homework. However, it was useless because when the cousin found he couldn’t play online games, he cried loudly. Until now, he still plays online games every day and got poor grades at school. Second, fewer and fewer people read in their free time. Some reports show that many teenagers’ basic knowledge is not enough. The ability of reading and writing for teenagers becomes worse and worse. Third, many students have started to wear glasses even since they were in elementary schools. One of the reasons is they play online games for too many hours a day. In addition, some people may spend money for buying equipment on those online games because they just want their characters look different. Someone who doesn’t have enough money may save their money without eating proper meals. I think it’s not worth to do it, because online games have a short “shelf life.” After one or two years, other online games will replace the games that you are playing. Finally, some online games have violent actions, such as CS, World of Warcraft. Children may learn those actions easily and then hurt someone. I think parents have responsibility to keep their children away from online games.
