To Wear or Not to Wear

Have you ever felt confused when you noticed your friends wearing glasses took off their attachments even without an operation? What a magic it is! Well, the answer is contact lenses. In recent years, there is an inevitably severe battle between ordinary glasses and contact lenses, and no one could deny that both of them have their own advantages .As for me, I would prefer to wear regular glasses because they have more advantages on appearance, price, and safety than contact lenses.

First of all, regular glasses have more variety in style, color, and material. I can choose different glasses in order to form different styles, such as gentle, mysterious, fashionable styles and so on. What’s more, I can choose as many colors as I can imagine. In terms of materials, I can choose a plastic one, a metal one, or even a wooden one as I like. In contrast, contact lenses are designed to not being noticed, and were made of a single material. Even though there are several colors I can choose from, they are far less than glasses’.

Next, regular glasses are cheaper than contact lenses under the circumstance of long-term use. Ordinarily, a pair of one-day-use contact lenses price at NT$35on average. It is much cheaper than glasses which can cost several thousand.Yet myopia or hyperopia is not short-term matter which would recover in several days. Therefore, in general, regular glasses’ prices are more affordable than contact lenses for constant glasses users.

Finally, contact lenses would do harm to eyes while glasses wouldn’t. I can wear glasses for 24 hours a day. I can’t wear contact lenses for more than 8 hours per day, however, because it may be harmful to eyes. To be honest, contact lenses are foreign bodies to our corneas. Therefore, long-time wearing of contact lenses would breed bacteria, which would then result in inflammation. In addition, contact lenses could be very dangerous. For example, a girl wearing contact lenses barbecued with her friends and she found she couldn’t take them off when she returned home. The doctor said it was lucky for the girl to come to the hospital in time, or she might lose her sight. It is because under the high temperature, contact lenses would have some chemical changes which are likely to endanger our eyes.

In a nutshell, ordinary glasses and contact lenses are great inventions to human beings. In my point of view, ordinary glasses have more advantages than contact lenses in the aspect of appearance, cost, and safety issues. Of course, I needn’t make a choice between them because I could purchase both of them for different occasions and this is a better solution, isn’t it?
