An Unforgettable on-Stage Experience in Dorney Park

Performing in front of the crowd is the most unforgettable experience in my 2013 summer life in Dorney Park andWildwater Kingdom. It was during mid-August. Every department employee must think up an idea and perform in front of the CEOs and managers. I remember I said “No” to my Zone3 supervisor, Carolyn, first. Therefore, I was acting that I was totally afraid to be on stage, and of course pretending to be a fool is not what I’m good at.

One day, however, one of my Taiwanese friends named Emily came to me and asked me why I was not going. I said, “I don’t know what to do up there.” Surprisingly, she tried to convince me by saying,“I could never have imagined how my life would be so exciting because of this event and what I’ve done during the event.”There were two reasons why she had convinced me.

First of all, being the only international student performing on the stage is something to be proud of. This event was not a shame of Taiwanese people, but an opportunity of showing friends that we got a chance to be on stage. As a result, I was proud of myself, friends and families.Secondly, I’ve never got a chance to perform in front of the crowd. This event could be a very challenging experience in my life. Clearly, I was willing to be part of the performance.

Big Bash event finally came and I realized that it was a difficult task for me to tell my supervisors that I wanted to be part of the performance. In fact, my friend Emily told me that it was fine and people just met up before the event started. I was like “WHAT?” I really didn’t know whether I was making the right decision or not. Big Bash event was always held on the midnight of August 13 in Dorney Park. The reason is that Dorney Park is open for tourists till 10p.m. and the employees must clean up the trashbefore the park closed.

Before the event started, I was still working in Snoopy Boutique as a sales associate. However, I was so nervous that I kept asking Emily whatwewere supposed to do on stage. She also kept telling me not toworry and everything was going to be fine. Finally, I finished my work and I met my coworkers and asked them what we were going to perform. They explained to me that Katie, one of the Merchandise Department Supervisors, was going to sing a rap. What we were going to do was to act like a rapper just like her and put on the props. “It was not what I thought.” I screamed in my inner voice that only I could hear.

However, Katiesaid that Merchandise Department actually had a skit this year, and it was a parody of Macklemore's Thrift Shop, renamed as Gift Shop, featuring items from our Merchandise Department. What I should do was to help my department out and participated! In addition, I didn't have a speaking part, which means I just neededtodobackground acting. After Iknew the entire activities flow, I was screaming to myself again,“It would be tons of fun.” Needless to say, her saying was just like medication that could relieve some symptoms of anxiety. I was so happy that she was here with us.

“It’s going to be our turn. ” We shouted together while we were taking photos of each other. Before going on the stage, I was thinking that it was really a nice experience and that I could take part in the event. The reasons were I could get to know my supervisors well and they were so professional that made me admire them a lot, even though they were younger than me. Of course, they loved me so much because I’m such a considerate cashier they have ever got. After all, I was a treasure to them.

I was up on the stage, and I was singing“I’m gonna pop some tags, only got $20 dollars on my fast pay, I’m I’m haunting, looking for a bargin, this is freaking awesome.”and feeling happy to be with my American friends and having the most incredible night with them. While I was up there, Katie and Carolyn coached me what to do because they got the cheat sheets on their hands. It was actually chaos up there but we really had a very fun night. Every Taiwanese friend saw me up there and felt surprisedwhere my courage came from. I told them I followed my instinct because I knew from now on I wanted to prove something and I did it. I made myself proud and made my friend proud of me. It was an unforgettable experience I had in Dorney Park.
