The Differences Between My Best Friends

Momo Cheng

Everyone has many kinds of friends, and they might be very different in some ways. My best friends in college, Hank and Steven, are the best examples of my friends who are very different in many ways. They are very different in their personalities, values and the ways showing their consideration.

They have very different ideas about life and future. Hank is an idealist and he usually gets himself into a blind alley. Once Hank decides to do something, he would never give up. He believes that everything would go well even though the things have gone under. But Hank may be indecisive in some ways. For example, it’s difficult for him to give up the things he’s chasing. By contrast, Steven is more pragmatic and realistic. As long as he had done everything he could do, although it didn’t work out well, he would let it go. And unlike Hank, Steve would make decisions quickly and do the things right after he decided to do it.

Both of them are rich, but they use their money in very different ways. For example, Hank loves brand names and delicious foods. He would spend most of his free time on following the fashion and he also spends much money on the current fashion. Unlike Hank, Steven loves motorcycles and goes to the night clubs. Steven usually spends his money on the components or the accessories of his motorcycle. And he loves to have fun by dancing and drinking for celebrating something, like birthdays.

Though their values are rather different from mine, we are the best friends of each other. And again, our ways to show our consideration to each other are totally different. Hank always shows his friendship and consideration directly. He is an impatient and restless person; when we meet something serious and important, he always does the thing according to his intuition and without thinking. That’s the reason why some people would think he is acrimonious and direct. In contrast, Steven usually shows his friendship and consideration silently. For instance, Steven won’t be panic-stricken even something unexpected happens. He would do everything he can do silently for me; and he never asks me to repay what he has done for me.

Both of Hank and Steven are very important to me. Though we are totally different in some ways, we are complementary to each other in many aspects. If we can be the life-long friends, I believe it would be the greatest and most wonderful thing to all of us.
