The Reasons Why Students Want to Study Abroad

Nowadays, it is increasingly difficult to look for jobs without higher degrees in the job market. Therefore, some parents make their children finish their studies overseas, expecting them to find better jobs in the future and develop stronger personalities.

To begin with, graduates who have overseas degrees can get better jobs more easily than others. Because many successful companies in Taiwan maintain business with foreign companies, they need employees who not only speak English fluently but also know the orientation of Taiwan in the global economy. Take my cousin, Judy, for example; she went to America to study when she was thirteen years old. She is working for a famous transnational corporation now. As a successful business chief, she told me their standard for hiring employees. They would choose candidates who had studied abroad for an interview first because of their language superiority. Moreover, they would know better the ways of foreigners’ negotiation and working.

Second, students need to be independent when they study in the foreign countries. It is a lonely time for them to be away from their friends and families. However, this is also the chance to train themselves to have strong dispositions. After they overcome these lonely days, they can face challenges more easily than people who never confront frustrations. John, who was my classmate of elementary school, got admission to Berkeley University after graduating from senior high school. We always chat on the Internet and talk about our lives recently. Every time I complained about some annoying things in school, he always laughed at me and said they were all pieces of cake. He told me that he felt upset because there were many new challenges waiting for him in school. Therefore, he had lots of pressure but he was willing to conquer them. I strongly believe that he will be a successful man in the future because he suffers more pain than we do now.

Consequently, studying abroad is a popular trend in Taiwan. It is a good way for us to have credible degrees and great jobs. It also gives us chances to learn English effectively and experience different cultures by going deep into foreign life. Finally, we can grow up and become more independent and competent after studying abroad.
