My First Impression of Taipei

Wilson Chou

I am a student from Shanghai and I’ve been studying here for one year. I’m very grateful for this opportunity and would like to share with you my first impression of Taipei, which is a city of beauty and amazement.

The people in Taipei are hospitable and warm-hearted. On my way from the Airport to Yangming Mountain, the airport workers helped me find my luggage, the taxi driver introduced the traffic system to me, and the teachers showed me around the university and found me a residence. All of them gave me a helping hand without hesitation, which moved me a lot.

The landscapes of Taipei are grand and modern. When I walk in the streets of Xinyi District, skyscrapers like 101 and other grand structures caught my eyes. Walking along a small street in Ximending, I found the latest artistic objects and saw the latest fashion wears in many gorgeous shops. Taipei is a city that never sleeps with strong heartbeats.

Politics in Taipei is totally different from that in Mainland China. Politicians of different parties show their own thoughts and opinions, and people have their own rights to elect their own president. Freedom and democracy can be felt in the air here. It’s the reason why I’d like to be a law major. I hope I can bring the sound legal principle back to my hometown someday.

All in all, Taipei impressed me as a beautiful city with kind people living in a fair legal system. I will treasure the four years here.
