The Differences Between College Students’ Living at Home and Living Outside

Linda Peng

In the university, students do not always live at home. Some of students’ hometowns are far away from the campus. Then, they need to live outside. Living outside also allows one to gain a lot of experience and become more independent and responsible than living at home. No matter in food, transport and other daily necessities, there are many differences between living outside and at home.

One of the most obvious differences between living outside and at home is how one prepares the food. When we are at home, parents always prepare meals for us, and we don’t have to worry about what we eat for meals. However, if we live outside, we need to think about what we should eat every day.

Although living at home is comfortable, there is comparatively less freedom than living outside. For example, one of my classmates always has to go home on time, or her parents will get angry. And if we live outside, we may have more chances and time to join extracurricular activities, and we can get various life experiences by taking part in these activities.

In addition, there is a great difference in the importance of transportation between the one who lives outside and the one who lives at home. People who live at home need to get up early and take the bus or the MRT to go to school. However, people who live outside near the campus or live in the school dormitory don’t need to worry about transportation.

The last obvious difference between one living outside and living at home is how their daily necessities are satisfied. At home, we never have to worry about our daily necessities, because our parents will ensure that they are provided. On the other hand, we need to take care of our daily necessities by ourselves when we live outside.

There are differences between living outside and at home in ways of how one deals with the many aspects of life. We can choose either way according to our conditions and preferences.
