   Funemployment means a situation in which someone is enjoying not having a job because they have time for leisure and other activities. For instance, they would rather play online video games, searching the web and online shopping instead of getting a proper job. Forget about unemployment, the young and jobless are actually putting a positive spin on being unemployed. The post-graduation blues are a real thing. In fact, a lot of things are real or a reality, such as unemployment, depression, and the realization that finding work with just one English Bachelor’s Degree.

    The last requirement companies preferred but did not require a bachelor’s degree. It doesn’t take a genius to get a position in the field of teaching. In this competitive society, the most important quality employers are looking for in employee is the determination to learn. If you’re willing to learn, even if you’re unemployed, you can be happy by becoming a freelancer and have control of your working hours. Funemployment seems to be the trend nowadays since you will have the flexibility to manage your energy, money and time based on your needs.

    According to Wikipedia, funemployment also means a period of unemployment spent pursuing recreational activities or hobbies. As a result, if you want to start pursuing your hobbies you need to start living on budget, you can do that by selling off your car and get rid of that hefty car loan. Since health insurance is mandatory in Taiwan, you don’t have to be worry about spending a fortune when you’re sick and unemployed.

   Although someone else might interpret “funemployment” as changing the life course and character of a generation of young adults or it could cripple relationships between friends and family since you’re financially broke, you can use this moment while you’re unemployed to get involved in your community to meet new people, creating possibilities for networking, something that may turn a new opportunity for a job.

   The advantage of funemployment can be shown through the process of developing yourself during the period of your unemployment. Learn a new skill or take a class that can help you improve an existing one, maybe something that gives you a certification. With a little bit of digging you may find some low cost or even free training seminars and many community colleges even offer adult training courses. One of the stigmas associated with people that are out of work is that they may have skills that are dulled or are no longer relevant. Even if your skills are still sharp it never hurts to keep them honed by taking a class.

   Finally, once funemployed, you will not doubt quickly decide on your own list of inalienable, objective principles. But within the confines of my opinionated guide, the above is what you should be thinking about, and the following is a three sentence summary of it. Don’t take yourself too seriously. Yes, it is a positive way to help ourselves in difficult situations so let us embrace funemployment and forget about judgmental strangers who tend to label us without knowing anything.
