What is a good friend?

Emily Wang

A French philosopher Voltaire said, “All the splendor in the world is not worth a good friend.” In addition, although Einstein is a scientist who is crazy about science and keep researching knowledge, he also knew that friends can increase happiness and eliminate pain. A good friend is like a lighthouse. He/she can guide you to the correct direction when you are lost in the infinite ocean. A good friend is someone who helps you when you are in trouble, consoles you when you are sad, cares about you and never lets you down.

Choosing friends is very important. There are many kinds of friends, such as fair-weather friends, ordinary friends and intimate friends. Friends have a great influence on you. Whether a friend is good or bad is very important to your character and behavior. For example, in school, if your friends like to cajole you to skip the class or invite you to go out to play all the time, you may be misled by those friends if you do not have enough self control. In contrast, if your friends always work hard in their school work or exhort each other that they should not skip the class, you may pay more attention to the school work because you do not want to let yourself be scandalous. You may keep admonishing yourself. Therefore, although people cannot live without friends and others, choosing a GOOD friend is really an important thing.

A good friend is someone who helps you when you in trouble, and share your sadness and depression when you are sad. A good friend is just like a trash can who will quietly listen to your complaining. They may not leave or abandon you when you have some troubles. A good friend will be with you and listen to what you need no matter you are happy or sad. A good friend not only listens to the trouble you have, but also helps you solve it. That’s why people say that an ordinary friend seeks to talk with you about your problems, but a real friend seeks to help you with your problems.

A good friend will be not afraid to blame you or scold you when you make some mistakes. They do that because they really want to help you to correct your weakness. However, an ordinary friend will feel embarrassed to tell you your drawbacks. They may think that in their mind without telling you. A good friend may say something you do not like to hear in order to let you become better and better. That means good advice may sound harsh to the ears, but all the words come from a real friend’s sincereness.

A good friend really can help you a lot, and it is really important to you. A good friend can not only influence your personalities and behaviors, but also help you and be with you when you are in trouble.  A good friend is like a good bra which is hard to find, very comfortable, holding you up when you are down, and always close to the heart.
