The Effects of Living Outsides Alone

Annie Hsieh

I had never had the experience of living outsides alone for a long time before I became a college student. In the beginning, I felt excited for having the freedom. However, gradually, I found out that living outsides alone is not a good thing to me because I have to deal with lots of things by myself. So I would say that living outsides alone influences me on three ways—the management of time, independence and responsibility.

The first effect is the management of time. I think that it is the most difficult for me to learn. In the past, my mother would wake me up everyday. And she would prepare everything well for me. For instance, my mother would make the delicious breakfast for me everyday. But now, I need to make a daily list which reminds me that I have to wake up early and do everything by myself everyday. It makes me realize how important it is to manage my own time well.

The second effect is independence. Living outsides alone means that we must be more independent. After I live outsides alone, I become more mature. Now, when I get the troubles, I will try to solve them by myself. Instead of asking other people to help me, I can deal with the troubles steadily. It is completely different from the past.

The last effect is responsibility. Living outsides alone makes me understand that I have to take responsibility for all the things I do. I think that it is the most important thing for me to learn because it is a kind of attitude. If I do not have the right attitude, I would not succeed in the future. So now, if I promise myself or others to do something, I would do it as perfectly as possible. I am glad that I have become a more responsible person.

Although I still like to live with my family, I also appreciate the chance to live on my own. It makes me learn a lot of different things. And the most important is that it makes me become better and better.
