What Time Is the Best to Go to School?

Irene Xie

Many people say that students don’t have to go to school at seven o’clock. It is too early! Students should have enough sleeping time. However, I don’t agree with it. I have three ideas about why I propose that students have to go to school at seven o’clock. They should go to school early because it is good for health, convenient commuting, and effective learning.

To begin with health, as I mentioned most people support that students should get up later in the morning; otherwise they wouldn’t grow up healthfully. But in my perspective, it is actually unhealthier if a child sleeps late and gets up late. The main point is students should sleep at the proper time and with sufficient amount.

Next, most students have to get up early because of comminuting to school. As to me, I always have to spend one and half hour to get to school. It is a very hard time to me especially at rush hour. So if schools could offer more school buses, the problem would be solved. How easy it is! If the transportation is convenient, I don’t need to struggle to get to school, and I can even have a good rest on the bus. Then I will be sober and energetic for the early morning classes.

Thirdly, students have to learn too many kinds of skills at school. For example, all students have PE class. Students must learn playing basketball, playing badminton, swimming, dancing, and so on. What a sticky thing is it! We are not geniuses! Students should focus on some professional skill only, so that they don’t need to go to school early for those unnecessary courses. This actually contradicts students’ early morning proposal.

Above all, I don’t agree that schools should begin classes one or two hours later every morning. There are many ways to solve the problem. Going to school late is not the core problem. It just makes the problem more serious than before. Students’ proper sleeping habits, schools’ offering more school buses and reducing useless courses are more effective to solve the problem than going to school later.
