Terrible Dormitory

Emily Lin

The dormitory which I lived in when I was a senior high school student was a terrible and poor building. When I saw the dormitory the first time, I felt very confused. How could people live in here? Every day, I must walk through a wide basketball court that was surrounded by trees. Those trees were big and tall. It was said that ghosts often appeared under those trees at midnight. After passing the basketball court, I must walk through the restaurant of the dormitory. It was filled with a lot of tables and chairs. Although those pieces of furniture were placed as the shape of a ship, it made me feel uncomfortable. Finally, I must walk through a path, which was the entrance to the dormitory. Both sides of the path were covered with weeds that were higher than my knees. In the summer, after raining, various insects came out from the weeds, including snails, earthworms, and leeches. The snails were as big as a palm. Sometimes, I could hear some cracking sounds. It means that some snails were broken by people’s feet. As soon as I entered the dormitory, I saw a Eight Diagrams(八卦) on the top of the door. I felt amazed. The color of the floor was gray and black. It looked dirty. The color of the wall was white but had some fissures. How old the building was! The bed was iron with a board on the top of it. Every night, when my roommate and I moved our bodies, the bed swayed and caused noises. I really worried that it would collapse one day. There were a lot of mosquitoes and ants in the room. I always hit mosquitoes before I went to sleep, so I could sleep better. Those ants were abominable. I never put my foods and drinks on the table for fear that the ants may attack them quickly and cruelly. The dormitory was a gray building. When I looked at it from a distance, it was really like a haunted house to me. Fortunately, I just lived in there for two years. Although I only lived there for a short time, I was greatly impressed by it.
