DINKs

     DINKs stands for double income no kids. This word came from the occident in the 1950s. Because the stock market is bearish and the economy is in a slump, many people are out of work. Therefore, more and more couples prefer to be a DINK. Nowadays, DINK is a common phenomenon in our society, especially in a developed country. Why is this phenomenon so pervasive? The reason is that raising a kid is not an easy job. A kid's education surtax is pretty expensive and the fees about kids are also expensive. Here are some reasons why DINKs do not like to have babies.

      DINKs are so common now because people's concept of family is not the same as before. Parents who breed children need to spend the time and expend the energy. For example, a baby sometimes will cry in the middle of the night and parents have to get up in the middle of their sleep to comfort it. It is not a simple job that everyone can afford. Although DINK has double incomes, some of their salaries are not very well. If they do not have babies, they can have more time and money to do other things. Hence, their financial stress can be reduced if they do not have kids.

      Many couples want to develop their own career and interests, so they do not want to have children. Although they do not have children, some of them would keep pets to replace kids, since looking after pets is easier than taking care of kids. Besides, keeping pets does not cost too much money. Pets can also accompany people, and most pets are loyal and clever. If the master feels upset, some pets will comfort him or her. Also, some pets can understand their master's mood. So I can realize why some DINKs would rather have pets than kids. If there are too many DINKs in a country, there may be some problems. First, a country's population will decrease year by year. The most important thing is that ageing of population becomes a serious problem. Second, some DINK will regret when they reach their forties or fifties. They would want to have their own babies because they need kids to accompany them. But if they want to have a baby in this age, women need to take more risks. So being DINKs may also have some disadvantages.

      To sum up, DINKs have become a common type of family. And being DINKs has advantages and disadvantages. We can choose to be DINKs or not in the future. But DINKs have to take care of themselves in the old age, and they need to prepare themselves for the worst when they get old.
