School Rules: Eating in the Classroom

      The issue of eating in the classroom has been discussed many times, but we still do not have the conclusion. The rule doesn’t have to be rigid. I think we have to consider many reasons and problems so that we can decide whether we can eat in the classroom or not. Some people consider that we should not eat in the classroom. Others think that our eating in the classroom is OK. There are some issues for us to consider such as distracting others’ learning, messing up the classroom, and not respecting the teacher.

      Some people consider that we should not eat in the classroom. They think students are easily distracted by food. Some people think if someone eats fried chicken or instant noodles and so on, other students will be affected, because those foods are good-smelling. They will make them feel hungry. Some students may even discuss what other delicious foods they like, so they cannot concentrate on the study.

      On the other hand, some consider students’ eating in the classroom is an impolite thing. Just think about it. If we want to say something to others, but they don’t pay attention to us, how would we feel? It is very bad, right? So they think the teachers will feel that they are not respected by the students who eat when they are teaching.

      Some think eating in the classroom is sometimes necessary, for we will lack energy and cannot concentrate if we are very hungry. Some teachers can accept that students eat in the classroom, because sometimes the class time is at twelve o'clock. If the class time is eight o'clock in the morning, most teachers would also agree that students eat their breakfast in the classroom. Of course, the students should finish their meal as soon as possible. Don’t forget that we cannot mess up the environment, and don’t leave our food or rubbish in the classroom.

      In my opinion, we can eat in the classroom if our class time is at eight o'clock or twelve o'clock. Of course, we have to finish the food as quickly as possible. We also should not disturb the teachers and the other students. Finally, we cannot litter the classroom with food and garbage.
