Effects of the Internet on Young People

With the development of technology, people have more opportunities to contact with technological products. Especially young people spend lots of time on the Internet. Thus, the Internet affects young people considerably. However, is the Internet always good for young people? In my opinion, it brings many negative effects on young people.

First of all, most young people waste their time on the Internet. For example, they tend to spend all day playing online games, or just browsing the Net for nothing. It is terrible for young people because if they are addicted to playing online games, they will not pay attention to their academic activities and homework. After all, they think playing online games is more important than any other things. Therefore, they are likely to lose themselves in the cyber world.

Second, although young people can surf the Internet for information, they may be exposed to violence and sex on the Internet. Maybe searching for information on the Internet is more convenient than in the library, but if young people get improper information from the Net, they may be misled. For example, some messages on the Internet are immoral and misleading, and if young people are exposed to them, they may get the bad influence and become violent-prone and threatening to the society.

Finally, and probably most important, more and more young people prefer to make friends on the Internet rather than in their real lives. As a result, they won’t be able to learn to associate with people. If they need to talk with strangers, they would be nervous and shy. However, their parents cannot take care of them their whole life. They should be independent and confident because one day they should work to support themselves. They need to communicate with their bosses and co-workers and have good relationships with them. And if young people have no social ability, they are not able to talk with their bosses face to face, which will be bad for their future.

Maybe the Internet can provide people a lot of information, but it also brings some problems for young people. It is important that young people know how to use the Internet wisely. After all, the Internet plays a very important role in the modern society.
