Processes of Being Confident

Amy Zeng

Confidence is needed for everyone. As for me, confidence is about staying true to myself and staying true to my goals in life, no matter what kind of pressure I am under. When I was at junior high school, I had to participate in a speech contest for our class. However, I was too shy to join the contest. Therefore, I learned some tips to increase my confidence.

First, we should stop judging people. When people are hard on others, they are hard on themselves. It is said that people who talk behind others’ back are the most insecure, and the insecure sense makes them unconfident. The more comparisons between you and others, the more unconfident you become.

Second, we should practice accepting failure. Every failure that we are facing and every challenge that we are taking are for becoming a better person. Only by accepting the failure and getting through every hurdle can we be a better person.

Last, believe in your ability to improve. It is “growth mindset." It means our concept about growing if we change the unconfident mind of ourselves. Maybe in the beginning, we will make slow progress but then we will get better and better. At last, we will have more and more confidence.

These are the ways that I learned from Ellen Show, and I think it is helpful for me. The tips make me become more confident. I am not afraid of showing myself in front of people. I can express myself confidently. With these beliefs, I participated in the competition on behalf of our class and gave a speech successfully.
