The Development Of Personality

Amber Haung

Some people have good personality. Some have bad personality. According to Experts, say some reasons for the development of personality, determined by parents, the environment and peers. I agree on such a viewpoint.

Peers are a part of our life, and they may influence our personality. If you meet good peers, they will bring out your good characteristics. They can help you solve problems, teach your schoolwork, make you better in the future and so on. Like me, my peers are very nice to me. They teach me schoolwork that I don’t understand, give me advice when I am hesitatant about making decisions, etc. By contrast, if you meet bad peers, you may get in the wrong direction. Perhaps they will let you become addicted to the Internet, miss classes, take you to some bad places and so on. I remember my junior high school classmate, Vicky, met some bad peers and she turned rather negative. She always had arguments with her parents. Although my teacher tired to help her to get back to the right direction, it didn’t work out well on her. What a pity! From this lesson we know that it is difficult to find a peer with good personality.

The environment can decide our personality, too. People who come from a good environment may have a good development in their personality. For example, I met a good teacher in senior high school. She always encouraged me to apply for the departments, related to education; she knew I was unhappy because of dancing. Thanks to her suggestion, I have a chance to study education and minor in English. Now, I think the development of my personality is quite positive. Unfortunately, some of my friends come from a heartbreaking environment. My friend, Joyce, is very poor. Because she is very poor, she has a bad habit--stealing. One time, she stole stuff and was caught by a police. At that time, she found she was wrong. Although she was poor, she shouldn’t steal. She was regretful, and she decided she wouldn’t steal anymore. The environment deeply influences our personality.

The most important influence on the development of our personality is our parents. Parents’ personality always influences our personality. My parents are a little bit of harsh. So am I. My temper is very bad. By contrast, Peggy is very tender. One day, I saw her parents; her parents are also tender. Perhaps, our parents are a model for us. We will learn something from them. I learned from parents, too. The experts are right. Parents’ behavior will influence the development of our personality.

In fact, the development of personality is very important. Peers, the environment and parents are much related to the development of personality, so when we become parents one day, we must care about the development of personality of our own children.
