“Investments” for College Students

When it comes to investment, making money or buying stocks usually comes to people’s minds. However, aside from investments that help one make more money, investments for people’s knowledge are also important. College is the perfect place and time period to absorb all kinds of knowledge or acquire new skills. In my opinion, among the countless investments, there are three investments that will change one’s life. These investments are English, extra-curricular activities, and music. 

     As an English-major student, I have understood the importance of English in nowadays society. English is a useful tool that helps one broaden one’s horizon and connect to the world. Moreover, compared to other languages, English is much easier to learn thanks to its simple and logical grammar structure and alphabet system. Another reason is that the linguistic logic of English is totally different from that of Chinese, our mother tongue. Researches have proved that a person who acquires more than one linguistic logic is more conceptually flexible than those who only have only one single linguistic logic. As a result, English is an essential investment to make while in college.

Aside from schoolwork, extra-curricular activities are also must-have experiences during the college period. By joining different clubs or activities, one will be able to know more people from many different departments. Moreover, it will also make one become more independent and responsible after holding different kinds of events in the club. Therefore, taking part in activities out of the classes is an important experience for college students.

Music is another worthwhile investment to make while in college. Music is a significantly important element that contributes to our culture and society. Learning musical instruments is the most popular way to invest oneself with music. Playing musical instruments, like pianos, guitars, or violins is a skill that will stay with a person for a whole life. It also gives one the ability to appreciate music from a deeper angle. Therefore, taking a music lesson is quite necessary while we are in college.

There are dozens of ways to invest oneself when in college. However, in my opinion, the three investments above are the most beneficial to make during one’s college period. These investments will make people’s life more colorful and interesting.
