An Irresponsible Leader

The leader is an important person in a group because the leader could determine if the group is great or bad. I met a leader in Welcome Camping who was not good at arranging the time, did not understand the game rules, and did not listen to the group members' advice. I have never seen a leader like this.

The leader was not good at arranging the time. For example, we had to spend a lot of time making the props for the activities. But she always told us to practice the dance. We told her that we had practiced the dance well enough, so we should not waste the time on it, and we should take more time to do the props. But she did not listen to us. She thought she was right.

The leader did not understand the game rules well. For instance, we would prepare some games for the participants to know each other fast. We would play the game by ourselves to ensure the game could proceed smoothly. One time, we found a problem in the game. We told the leader about it. But she did not care about this. She thought it was not a big problem. In the end, her carelessness made the game unable to proceed because the players could not understand the game rules.

The leader did not listen to the group members' advice. An activity needs water balloons on the next day. We asked her whether we should fill up water balloons. If we did not, we would have no time to fill them up. The leader told us that there were enough water balloons, and we did not need to do it. But at the review meeting, she told us that the water balloons were not enough, and we needed to fill them up immediately. Every one was mad because she did not listen to others’ suggestions. And because of it, we slept only two hours that night.

We can know how important a leader is. If the leader cannot listen to others’ opinions, he or she is likely to mess things up. In addition to leading the members to complete tasks, a leader must listen to others’ advice and discuss how to make things work. In my opinion, only teamwork and cooperation can make a group become better.
