My First Experience of a Part-Time Job

When I was in senior high school, I had been looking forward to having a part-time job. Because I thought if I had a part time job, I could learn a lot of experience that I couldn’t receive from school, so I considered it a symbol of maturity. After graduating from senior high school, I searched on the Internet and got a lot of information about part-time work. Finally, I found a famous steak restaurant in Tianmu. I decided to apply for the job, and after a week I was hired. Not surprisingly, I was extremely nervous about my first job.

On the first day, the superior told me their rules and the way of management. My co-workers helped me to get familiar with the environment, and I found the chef was not approachable at all. After that, the superior trained me to carry a tray. I needed to maintain balance, and I had to be careful not to overthrow it. It was not easy apparently

I started to work on the second day. It was my first time to service customers. I had to gently put the meal on their table, and then uttered the name of the dish. Most importantly, I had to handle every demand of customers. Sometimes they disliked the taste of the soup; sometimes they thought the fruit was not fresh; sometimes they requested to redo the meal. In short, we had to provide everything the customers want.

After one month, the superior taught me to take the order. I had to be familiar with the process of every meal, and inform the customers of it. Furthermore, I should have the ability of recognizing the steak, including which part the steak was, and how it was cooked. Sometimes the customers were not satisfied with the steak, so I had to ask the chef to redo it. After half a year, the superior taught me to deal with the chore of the counter. It was really an important task. I had to checkout every table, and count the money every day. If the money was not correct, I had to pay for the loss.

My first part-time job did bring me a lot. I learned how to earn money by myself, and acquired the ability of dealing with tough problems. Although there were a lot of difficulties and helplessness in my first part- time job, I grew up with the work, and I have become more responsible for myself.
