Two Pregnant Women

Angel Chen

I have two cousins, Demmy and Fanny, who are my aunt’s daughters. They have been getting fatter and fatter day by day for a long period of time. However, they seem not worry about their weight but be glad of it because they have been pregnant since last autumn. From these two cousins, I also know much about a pregnant woman’s pain and happiness.

Waiting for a baby’s coming is an exciting thing for them. Although Demmy already has a

two-year-old child, and she still expects another child’s coming. I remember whenever I go to my aunt’s house, I always see the two pregnant women talk about their unborn infants, their physical changes of their checkups with each other. Sometime I will join their chat, and I usually find out that a smile will appear on each one’s face.

Almost every pregnant woman will prepare her child’s milk powder, clothes, diapers and the other daily necessities before the baby comes to this world. So do my two cousins. They often go shopping to buy everything the infants will need. Moreover, they decorate the babies’ rooms with some cute pictures. They listen to the soft music in order to cultivate the unborn infants’ temper and mine. Also, they read the books about how to teach and communicate with the baby, how to be a devoted mother, or something else. I think everything they do is trying to give their children the best living environment. And they both hope that they can play their roles well—the best mothers.

Although Demmy and Fanny similar in some ways, there are something different between them. First, their expectations toward the child’s sex are the different. Demmy is pregnant for the second time. And her first baby is a boy, thus she hopes she can have a baby girl this time because she loves girls very much. She always tells us, “I like girls because I can comb her long hair, I can buy her beautiful clothes and I can make her up just like a little princess.” She also says that if she has two baby girls, she will feel contented with that. But if she has two boys, she will consider to have another baby. Unlike Demmy, Fanny is pregnant for the first time. She is more nervous than her sister. Besides, her father-in-law likes boys more than girls. Therefore, she hopes she can have a baby boy first.

Next, their physical situations are different. Fanny’s life is affected deeply after she is pregnant. At the beginning of the pregnancy, she almost vomited every day. Sometimes when she saw the oily foods or smelled something disagreeable, she would feel uncomfortable at once. So, she almost lacked of appetite and couldn’t do anything during that period of time. On the contrary, Demmy’s life is almost the same as before. Except increasing her sleeping hours, she eats and works as usual. In this aspect, Demmy seems luckier than Fanny.

In a word, to be pregnant for nine or ten months is really hard for a female. They have to pass this period of time with great efforts. My cousins, Demmy and Fanny will have their children in late April. I hope each of them has a healthy and pretty baby and their dreams may come true, too.
