The Reasons for My Keeping a Tortoise

Nowadays, there's a trend in society that more and more people keep pets for various reasons. The blind regard pets as their assistants; kids play with their animal friends; some elderly nesters even keep pets as their children. I have a pet tortoise. And I keep a tortoise not only because it is easy to take care and it can accompany me, but also because it is my birthday wish.

First of all, tortoises are easy to keep and they have exuberant vitality. Tortoises can be fed once a month while other animals will starve to death if they eat only once a month. Compared with dogs and cats, they don't lose hair so that they don't make the room dirty. And they don't like to be taken out for a walk. Therefore, their owners won't feel guilty for lacking time to consort with them. When the weather becomes cold, tortoises will hibernate. People don't need to pay a lot of attention to them. If people want to go out for a long trip, they can be relieved for their pets.

Second, I'm the only child of my family and I always feel lonely. As my parents are busy with their jobs, I have to stay at home alone and amuse myself with toys because of no siblings. Since I was a young child, I have been yearning for a pet to share the happiness and sadness in my life. However, I clearly know that my parents have no more time to look after a pet. It's impossible to keep pets which are too naughty and disruptive. And thus, tortoises become the best choice for me.

Last but not least, I told my parents a birthday wish that I want to keep a tortoise last year. The tortoise is one of my favorite animals even though they just stay in the tank. I believe they are good listeners and I can imagine the wonderful time that I spend with them. My parents said "ok" after knowing my thought. They think I am old enough to make a decision and am responsible to a little life. I will never forget the day when my parents brought a small case which contained a cute tortoise.

All in all, keeping a tortoise is feasible for me. And finally, I have my own pet tortoise, Zeni. I cherish it and enjoy the day of staying with it. Every time I put it on my hand and stare at its beautiful eyes, I will feel a current of warmth flowing in my heart. I swear I will love it forever.
