Leadership Styles

Every company has a leader. Each leader has his own way to lead a company. I classify the leadership style into five different kinds, and each kind of leadership has a representative figure for their character. According to my observation, there are the tiger-type leaders, the peacock-type leaders, the koala-type leaders, the owl-type leaders, and the chameleon-type leaders. Each type of leadership has its efficacy, which makes them manage the company more easily and efficiently.

The first type of leadership is the tiger-type leaders. They are confident, competitive, proactive and highly ambitious persons. They are usually a decisive leader. In general, the tiger-type likes to take risks, and they like to take charge of everything. Their leadership style and decision-making process emphasize authority and determination. They are objective and substantively results-oriented. Also they are good at crisis management. The GE's former CEO Jack Welch is a typical representative.

The second type of leadership is the peacock-type leaders. They are particularly adept at interpersonal relations. They are good at oral expressions which make them able to communicate with incentives, depict the vision, and promote the atmosphere. They are the expert of publicizing their own ideas and shape the vision. They like interact with others, and focusing on groups. They have a sense of belonging. This influences their relations with others. Because of their compassion and willingness to share, they inspire people and lead them with good interaction. Peacock-type leaders usually have a very outstanding performance.

The third type is the koala-type leadership. They are approachable, honest and reliable, and stress the harmonious cooperation to avoid conflicts with people. In manner, they demonstrate leisurely, calm and self-sustaining attitude. They focus on stability and the long-term planning. In the real life, they often think of self-reflection and take harmony as the center thinking. When facing difficulties, they need more time to do an adequate planning, and then they will solve them with strong determination. Koala-types are like a bunch of unsung heroes. India's modern national liberation movement leader Gandhi is the best portrayal of the koala-type.

The fourth type of the leadership is the owl-type leaders. They give the first impression of being stable, accepting, having a great sense of responsibility. They act coherently, all under the rules and regulations, emphasizing on commitment and discipline, and have a tendency of perfectionism. This kind of person is very reliable. Owl-type persons take right and wrong very seriously. They easily become a professional expert in the field. They analyze work strongly, they required a high standard, and they do not allow mistakes. They are a very good partner in the organization. Such as the well-known Boa Sing Tina.

The fifth type of leadership is the chameleon-type leaders. Their common characteristics are that they have strong adaptability and flexibility, and they have good ability in coordinating and integrating external resources. The most important thing is that they treat people in a rational and neutral way. Chameleon-type leaders would adjust themselves according to the different environment. They are qualified experts in negotiations, and they are also perfect diplomatic personnel. In this fast-changing world, they can fit themselves into this world quickly.

I think I am closer to the second type of leadership.Because I like to communicate with people and I care about the belonging in a group. This makes me understand how to be a better person in my life. I believe everyone has his or her own leadership style, and this makes them unique.
