My First Impression of College Life

Tina Hsu

School has started for about two weeks. It doesn’t seem like a long time; however, to me, everything is all new, so two weeks feels like forever. Why would I say that? It is because for my entire life I have never lived away from home on my own till now. When I was still in high school, mom would always wake me up at seven in the morning, prepare my breakfast and send me to the school. But now, I have to set an alarm clock on my own at 5:50 in the morning, rush to the MRT station, and then catch the bus in order to get to school on time.

Between classes, we usually hang out in small groups and gossip, feeling exactly like in high school. Then there comes the hardest part: the time after school. I don’t live anywhere near the school, so I have to catch the bus and the MRT again. What bothers me most is dinner actually. I don’t like to think about what to eat next, because mom always makes dinner at home. The restaurants around my place come in various styles, but I don’t know why I mostly end up eating from the convenience store.

This whole college thing has been all new to me. But I think I’ll do it fine. I believe I will become a more independent and mature girl, and living on my own is the first step towards my bright future.
