Sicilian Meatloaf
Sicilian Meatloaf
Sicilian Meatloaf is a hearty and flavorful twist on the classic meatloaf, infused with Italian seasonings, grated cheese, and a rich tomato-based glaze. This recipe combines ground beef and pork with aromatic herbs, breadcrumbs, and a hint of garlic, creating a moist and tender loaf that’s perfect for family dinners. The tangy glaze on top adds a delicious finishing touch that complements the savory flavors inside.
Ingredients:
1 pound ground beef
1/2 pound ground pork
1 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 large eggs
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
For the glaze:
1/2 cup tomato sauce or marinara sauce
2 tablespoons ketchup
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, milk, onion, garlic, eggs, parsley, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
Shape the mixture into a loaf and place it in a lightly greased loaf pan or on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
In a small bowl, mix together the tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce to make the glaze. Spread half of the glaze evenly over the top of the meatloaf.
Bake for 45 minutes, then spread the remaining glaze over the meatloaf and continue baking for another 15-20 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
