Classic Pepper Steak with Bell Peppers and Onion is a quick and flavorful stir-fry dish featuring tender strips of beef sautéed with colorful bell peppers and onions in a savory sauce. This dish is a popular Asian-inspired recipe that is both satisfying and easy to make, perfect for weeknight dinners. The combination of sweet bell peppers, tender beef, and a rich sauce makes this meal a delicious and healthy choice served best over steamed rice or noodles.
Ingredients:
1 pound flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
1 red bell pepper, sliced
1 green bell pepper, sliced
1 medium onion, sliced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 tablespoons oyster sauce
1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon sugar
Directions:
In a bowl, combine soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sugar, and ground black pepper. Set aside.
Toss the sliced beef with cornstarch until coated evenly.
Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the beef and stir-fry until browned and cooked through, about 3-4 minutes. Remove beef from skillet and set aside.
Add the remaining tablespoon of oil to the skillet. Sauté the garlic, bell peppers, and onion until tender-crisp, about 4-5 minutes.
Return the beef to the skillet. Pour the sauce mixture and water over the beef and vegetables. Stir well to coat and cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.
Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.
