Homemade Wonton Soup is a comforting and flavorful dish that brings the authentic taste of Chinese cuisine to your table. For the Wontons:
50–60 wonton wrappers
200 g ground pork
200 g raw shrimp, finely chopped
1 tbsp grated ginger
2 green onions, chopped
1 tbsp light soy sauce
2 tbsp Chinese cooking wine
½ tsp salt
2 tbsp toasted sesame oil
For the Broth:
3 cups chicken broth
2 garlic cloves, smashed
1-inch slice of ginger
1½ tbsp light soy sauce
2 tsp sugar
1½ tbsp Chinese cooking wine
¼–½ tsp sesame oil
Shredded green onions, for serving
Bok choy or cooked egg noodles (optional)
Prepare the Wonton Filling:
In a bowl, combine ground pork, finely chopped shrimp, grated ginger, chopped green onions, soy sauce, Chinese cooking wine, salt, and toasted sesame oil. Use a potato masher to mix until just combined, leaving some shrimp texture.
Wrap the Wontons:
Place a teaspoon of the filling onto each wonton wrapper. Moisten the edges with water, fold to seal, and bring the corners together to form a pouch. Place wrapped wontons into a container with a lid as you work.
Cook the Wontons:
Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the wontons and cook for about 4 minutes until they float. Remove with a slotted spoon and set aside.
Prepare the Broth:
In a saucepan, combine chicken broth, smashed garlic, ginger slice, soy sauce, sugar, and Chinese cooking wine. Simmer for 5–10 minutes to infuse the flavors. Remove the garlic and ginger before serving.
Assemble the Soup:
If using, blanch bok choy in the broth. Add cooked egg noodles to bowls if desired. Top with the cooked wontons and ladle over the hot seasoned broth. Garnish with shredded green onions.
