In my opinion, some of the music that The Beatles released solo, especially in the early 70s, is among their finest music, up with anything they did as a group.
Especially:
John: everything he did through 1971, plus Walls and Bridges
Highlights: Working Class Hero Love Imagine (the whole album as well as the song) Give Peace a Chance Instant Karma And so This is Christmas
Specialist: Plastic Ono Band: This one is a special case: hard to listen to at times, but a classic autobiographical portrayal of some of the shit that poor John had to go through
This album is like the Book of Job: if you need it, Plastic Ono Band will rant for you; this album can save lives
George: All things Must Pass and Living in the Material World- these albums are incredible!
Paul: The first two Paul McCartney solo releases, McCartney and Ram , are simply incredible. McCartney, as an indie DIY lofi release belongs up with Wild Honey and Friends by The Beach Boys, and that is saying something!
McCartney II, his third legendary indie DIY art pop album, this time with synths
Memory Almost Full: a modern late-career masterpiece 300 years ahead of its time
And, of course, Band of the Run
Plus, some of their later work is incredible, especially the last George Harrison album Brainwashed and some of the Paul McCartney albums from the same period (late 90s-early 2000's).
Best of the Best: All Things Must Pass, Living in the Material World, Brainwashed, Imagine, all the albums, tracks, and singles listed under John Lennon Highlights above
These are equal to anything they did as a group, even Revolver and Sgt. Pepper's, Strawberry Fields and Abbey Road
Rest of the Best (Just Behind Revolver and Sgt. Pepper's): McCartney, Ram, McCarthney II, Band on the Run, Memory Almost Full, Walls and Bridges
Just wanted to let you know, this is great music!
God loves you!
Sincerely,
David S. Annderson
