The Safest Country in History

Imagine a country with as much resources as the Roman Empire, with such a fine system of natural transportation that it can send resources from one part of the country to another, across 60 percent or more of its land area and over 75 percent of its resource base, easily for maybe a third to a tenth of the cost of any other country in the world.

With this advantage, this country has an economy that is the powerhouse of its era.

And this country has united a continent, meaning that all other countries in the world need to cross the freaking Ocean to attack.

This is the safest country in history.

Here's the laugh: this country is scared of foreign invasion, more so than any other great power of its time!

Why'd you make up a story like that?  No one would believe it!  Stories are supposed to be believable!

Because I didn't make it up.    This story is real.  And it's not history- it's current events.    For that country is the good 'ol US of A.

The United States of America.

The river system that is the Mississippi-Missouri-Ohio river system is the engine that drives the American economy.

Water transportation is far easier and far cheaper than anything else.

Wanna send a ton of food to a store?      Put it on a river barge.

Not a ship at sea.    A river barge.  You never have to face a storm at sea.

The city of New Orleans, the jugular vein of the American economy, connects all this to two thousand miles of seashore, from Texas to Boston and beyond.

Sever this jugular vein, the American economy plummets.  But you still have that river system upstream.  You are still the envy of the world.

America's place as one of the three biggest economic superpowers on earth is secure.

And the United States shares its continent with just two other countries.

Mexico and Canada combined do not have half of the resources of the United States, and certainly have nothing comparable to America's waterways.

The United States has effectively united a continent.

China, Brazil, Nigeria, Russia, and India- the only countries on the planet that could conceivably even hope to rival the United States economically anytime in the future (and Brazil only by learning how the ancient Maya effectively farmed the rain forest in order to develop the Amazon)- would have to invade the United States across an ocean.

China, India, and Russia would have to invade the United States across the biggest ocean on the planet.

Brazil would have to learn ancient Mayan agricultural techniques before they could hope to become the fifth country (with India in 15 years or less (it's 2024)) to rival the United States economically.

Nigeria will have immense wealth once she recovers economically from European colonialism.  The agricultural wealth of the tropics where it rains is staggering, and Nigeria is one of its biggest hot spots.  This is the only other country on the planet that could even approach America's vast economy in the future.  She will make Germany look like a second rate economy shopping at Wall-Mart.  But she too would have to invade across an ocean.

The United States of America is the safest country in history.

Why are we so afraid of foreign invasion?

Let's enjoy our safety!

God loves you!

Sincerely,

David S. Annderson

P.S. India's wealth in 40 years will dwarf anything the United States ever knew.  Even China will have nothing like it.  But even India would have to cross an ocean- far more of an ocean than any other major power on the planet, even China- and there are other immense military advantages to that massive transportation advantage!
