Which she is
But that's like saying that Mozart was the Hootie and the Blowfish of his generation.
It's definitely true. But she's much more than that.
Which isn't to say that Kurt Cobain wasn't an amazing talent.
Kurt Cobain was a massive, massive talent. Historic.
But Kurt Cobain hits with a sledgehammer.
While Billie Eilish paints a sophistocated picture.
Billie Eilish is the Kurt Cobain of her generation.
But she is also the Dostoyevsky of her generation. And the Billie Holiday of her generation.
She writes lyrics like a great novelist, the kind that comes along once in a generation if at all.
And her brother Finnean who composes and plays the music is the Miles Davis of the new generation.
America lives!
In Billie Eilish and her brother Finnean, America lives!
Most of the genius right now may be in places like Japan, South Korea and India
But in Billie Eilish and Finnean America lives!
God loves you! And it's okay to tell sad stories like Billie Eilish does! Especially if it encompasses such a wide range of emotions and spirit as her and Finnean's work does!
God loves you!
Sincerely,
David S. Annderson
P.S. I have to give Kurt Cobain credit for immensely expanding the previously limited musical scope of hard core punk by adding musical elements from metal in a brilliant and natural way, making it possible for Grunge to lead to the likes of Radiohead and Billie Eilish! As I said, a massive talent.
P.P.S. 2024, a few years later: Billie Eilish Started Out as the Kurt Cobain of her generation. But this was just a phase, she has grown and explored other creative territory since then. She has grown into too wide-ranging an artist to be stuck expressing just one range of moods! We now see Kurt Cobain Billie Eilish alongside happy, joyful Billie Eilish and quiet, reflective Billie Eilish, all as part of a single, wide-ranging creative career, of an artist who has continued to grow and reach wider-ranging highs since she first burst upon the scene! It has been a privilege following her career, watching it unfold!
