Birgit Nilsson's high notes

I love opera. My favorite opera singers are Birgit Nilsson and Anja Silja.

Someone once said of listening to Harry Nilsson sing the high notes in 'Without You', that it was like watching a tightrope walker. That you know that he could fall but he doesn't.

That's not what listening to Birgit Nilsson is like.

Listening to Birgit Nilsson hit the high notes is like watching a jet plane.

You know she ain't gon' to fall.

And I've only heard her sing on CD.

They say she was much more powerful in person, that they never captured her full power on tape.

Not though I have never heard anyone sing more powerful on tape in my life!

Wow!

Who says there ain't strong women!

Opera loves strong women!

For over 175 years opera has loved strong women with a great passion!

Ever since Wagner and Verdi it has always been strong women who are the heroes!

God loves you! Never underestimate what you can do!

Sincerely,

David S. Annderson

P. S. Don't underestimate what you can do as a 'Black' person either- some of the most beloved Verdi singers have been 'Black' women! Look up Leontyne Price, Martino Arroyo, and Grace Bumbry, easily three of the greatest singers of Italian Romantic opera ever! (Grace Bumbry even sang Wagner on the side, few people have ever done both Italian and German on the highest professional level!) And Duke Ellington was one of the great classical composers! (He was as much classical as he was anything! Classical nationalism from a jazz background!)
