Tales of 'white' Europe and 'Black' Africa: Shared Christian Roots

Imagine a great land of warrior tribes in contact with the heart of Mediterranean and Greek civilization.

They learn from the Greeks; they learn from the Romans.

They learn the Love of Christ.

Now they have formed a great Empire, great Kingdoms whose descendents are still with us to this day.

There are two such lands in our history.

One is Europe.

One is the heart of 'Black' Africa.

In Europe, German warrior tribes learned from Rome and Greece, learned the Love of Christ.

Became part of Christendom with Athens and Alexandria and Rome.

Later they created Charlemagne's Empire.

It had a great age of peace as it rose out of the frontier.

It broke up. But two successor kingdoms remained.

France. And Germany.

In Ethiopia, African warrior tribes not too different from the Germans founded port cities on the sea.

These port cities were in contact with Athens and its world, with Egypt.

Eventually, out of the greatest of these port cities, as it bustled with trade from India, Persia and China, grew a great Empire- Axum.

A great Empire on the great crossroads of the sea routes, with a great inland agricultural heartland stretching out far and wide.

Then the Christian religion began to be popular.

Already they had learned much of Egypt, Alexandria and the Mediterranean.

Now they became a great Christian Empire- decades before the Germans ever became Christian, at the same time as the Roman Empire.

Their nation was on the cosmipolitan crossroads of the great sea routes of Asia, where ships from India, Persia and China came to sail to Egypt, and to meet overland travellers from Egypt and the Mediterranean and from the great interior of Africa.

Their nation was part of the world of Persia, India, Egypt, and China, unlike Europe, which was isolated.

Both remained Christian after the Islamic conquests.

'White' Europe.

And 'Black' Ethiopia.

I bet you never knew that Europe and the heart of 'Black' Africa have so much history in common!

Both are part of Christendom.

And both remained Christian after the Islamic conquests.

'Black' Ethiopia and 'White' Europe.

So much in common.

Let's get along.

Let's get along and love each other.

Sincerely,

David S. Annderson
