And this is why the 'western' media is unfair to Asia, Africa, and the rest of the non-Western world
The media in western countries is still colonialist.
Countries in places like Asia and Africa are held to impossible standards.
Look at the controversy over the World Cup being held in Qatar.
Qatar is a good free country.
This is not the Ayatollah's Iran.
This is a good, free, stable democracy.
And what, holding the World Cup in Qatar is controversial why?
Because they bought the right to host the World Cup?
Yeah, right. Like France or Germany has never bought the right to host a World Cup.
Or an Olympics.
And no one complains.
But a rich Arab country gets to host the World Cup, and all of a sudden it's controversial?
As far as I know we have no evidence that Qatar bought the right to host the World Cup.
We just know that they're a rich Arab country.
Countries in Asia and Africa get bad press for things nowhere near as bad as some of the things Donald Trump got away with- or tried to get away with- in America.
I mean, the man had immigrant children on the border separated from their families and put in prison!
If the leader of a Arab country did that, they would be demonized as another Hitler or Saddam Hussein!
And the name of their country would be blackened for decades!
But America is not judged by the same standards as Iraq or China.
If an Asian or African country does the slightest thing wrong, we demonize them.
Give me a break.
I mean, if there is anything wrong in Asian or African countries, it's the fault of European colonialists!
China had a wonderful track record in politics before the British came in in the 19th Century!
Mali had a fine track record as well! And so did virtually all of Asia and Africa!
India had a tradition of law and good government, starting with the Dharma Sutras and including many learned writings, that was a thousand years old in the early middle ages when western Europe barely even existed as a separate civilization!*
Ottoman Turkey, China, and Japan- among others- recognized religious freedom when Catholics and Protestants were still at each other's throats in Germany!
European Christians only got kicked out of 17th Century Japan because they were persecuting Buddhist priests in Buddhist Japan!
But we don't even expect Western countries to take responsibility for their own problems- at least not to the rediculous degree that we expect Asian and African countries to!
Give me a break!
Let's start treating Asian and African countries with the same respect that we treat America and western European countries like France!
Let's stop being colonialists and start being fair!
And if we can do nothing about the media, leading with our own example will make a difference!

If you go looking at the Dharma Sutras, keep in mind that not everything in there was meant to be a law- some of them are meant to be suggestions, guidelines, while others are suggestions for laws, to be implamented as the situation calls for it by the King and his advisors. Also, keep in mind that traditionally Islamic law was interpreted very differently and far less strictly than it is in the Ayatollah's Iran today (early 21st Century)!
