Jeff Garcia

I grew up a 49ers fan. (I like the Cowboys too, though... after so many bitter angry things in American sports in the early 2000's, I really appreciate the gentlemanly rivals that the Dallas Cowboys always were! You make Texas proud, I'm sure- I'd be proud of them!)

I have got to say... I have so much respect for what Jeff Garcia did with the 49ers. Stepping into the shoes of Joe Montana and Steve Young... wow. That's pressure. I applaud you. Thank you so much for those two last really good years of the old era!

Yeah. That's pressure. For nearly 20 years the legendary Joe Montana, the greatest quarterback ever, and his worthy successor and all-time great, Steve Young, led the 49ers. Every year they were Super Bowl contenders. When Joe Montana is no longer there, Steve Young is right there to take his place. Then Steve Young is hurt, and out for good. Jeff Garcia steps up. And plays well.

And in time leads the aging dynasty, their core long gone, their salary cap ruined, to two last very good years.

Two last very good years we thought would never happen without a fair number of rebuilding years at least. Certainly not so soon, with so many of the old leaders from 1997 and 1998.

But that pressure. Following up Joe Montana and Steve Young.

I applaud you, Jeff Garcia. And thank you so much for those two seasons.

Good sports memories!

God loves you!

Sincerely,

David S. Annderson

P. S. One more thing- I realize now that the 49ers and the Cowboys are actually very similar- we are both franchises known for quarterbacks, and quarterbacks who are known not so much for passing yardage as team leadership and clutch play- the intangibles. I hope the 49ers have also been like the Cowboys in being gentlemen as well! (Jerry Rice certainly has been, but I feel that is more for a Cowboys fan to judge!)
