Everyone who was around in the 90s knows how legendary the first 8-9 years or so of The Simpsons is.
The quality of the writing on that show in its legendary early years is, quite simply, legendary.
This is intelligent television on almost a literary level- sometimes, in a good episode, at a literary level.
The fact that The Simpsons celebrates 'lowbrow culture' did not disguise the legendary quality.
But everyone who was around in the later 90s and early 2000s knows that there were two legendary animated sitcoms of legendary high standards of writing.
The other one was King of the Hill.
What I most respect about King of the Hill is the fact that you cannot tell whether the show was from a Conservative or a Liberal point of view.
The subject is life from the point of view of a Conservative family in the heart of Texas.
One moment the show would be celebrating the virtue of a Liberal point of view, with a gentle, not harsh, critique of Hank Hill's Conservative point of view.
And then later on in the same episode, they story would be celebrating the virtues of an American Conservative Christian upbringing.
This was a show devoted to the truth, not just fact, and devoted to a thoughtful look at American life, a show devoted to respecting both Liberal and Conservative points of view and looking for truth in both.
A show with just as high a standard of writing as the legendary early seasons of The Simpsons.
And so this is my tribute to King of the Hill.
We could use this show today in America.
Reruns of King of the Hill could start a constructive, thoughtful dialogue between the two sides of our poor, divided America.
All of it with a kind, respectful attitude.
Thank you so much to the creators of this great show!
This is my tribute to King of the Hill.
God loves you! Reach out in kindness and build bridges!
Sincerely,
