Miniature pigs do not stay small.
I know very little about pigs. I do know that some breeds are fairly docile and friendly around humans, and I have had the pleasure of meeting a very mild-mannered, very old miniature pot bellied pig at one point.
I have no doubt that if the more docile miniature pig breeds are anything like this guy that they would make a delightful addition to a household that knew how to care for them.
The problem? The word Miniature is relative.
Your average farm pig will weigh anywhere from 300 pounds on up to, well, something much more than 300 pounds.
And so a pig the size of a German Shepherd is miniature.
What's wrong with having a nice pig the size of a German Shepherd as a pet?
Nothing. As long as you know that they don't stay tiny like piglets, any more than Saint Bernard puppies stay that small.
On the other hand, a Gottengen minipig the size of a German Shepherd is very much the ideal size pet for many people, and the Gottengen minipig is renowned as a docile breed that does well around humans.
This is not a huge farm pig that is not used to interacting more with humans than having Farmer Brown come in once a day to give 'ol 500-pound Douglas the Farm Pig his feed.
You still have to know the unique needs of whatever pet you choose, whether dog or rabbit or pig or cat.
But perhaps, these pigs would make a fine friend.
As long as we realize that they will be the size of a German Shepherd, not the size of a toy poodle.
Anyway, hope this helps!
Farm pigs can be huge! (and don't get much chance to socialize with humans, not like Gottengen minipigs!)
But let's love all God's creatures, at least from afar!
From far enough so that 'ol Al the Gator can't eat my sweet friend! (Not that I hate 'ol Al, we just keep our distance! Let's not feed our tasty friends to him!)
God loves you!
Sincerely,
David S. Annderson
P.S. Millions of people from Florida to Louisiana have coexisted with 'ol Al the Gator without feeding their tasty selves to him! We can coexist with 'ol Al! We're smart!
