Yesterday or the day before I commented on a thing on Deviantart, and I would like to reproduce that comment here.
I read this title: 'Why the Globalist, Secular World of the Radical Left is Dying'
Now, maybe I should have just ignored this thing that someone wrote. But it got me to thinking- and to show what I was thinking, I will reproduce my comment right here.
The Left in America doesn't have the answer. The Right in America doesn't have the answer. America is so, so young. America only has a beginning. America doesn't have the answer.
I agree that the secular world will fade away. It won't be swept away. It will fade away quietly as more and more people discover wisdom and spirituality and realize that a cold secular world is empty and brings no fulfillment. They won't find that spiritual wisdom in politics. Politics is a practical science.
What we in the West call Religion is following the philosophy by rote on faith without understanding it. Western European-derived civilization is young, only goes back to Charlemagne, was long isolated. When you understand it, it becomes philosophy.
That's what will replace our secular society- quietly, not suddenly and loudly.
It is those who are willing to learn who will lead the way.
I will add three things to this now. The first is that nothing worthwhile in our secular world will disappear. Science, popular entertainment, secular law- all the older, spiritually rooted civilizations had those things. Things like that will not disappear, and you will be free to follow them in a purely secular spirit if you so wish. Spiritualism will come to those who want it, you will be free to follow or stay secular. But you will have a more fulfilling alternative, and you won't be treated like a freak for following that more fulfilling spiritual alternative, whatever tradition it comes from.
The second is that politics in America, left and right both, is part of the secular world. The politics of America's right is part of that cold secular world just like all American politics. Politics is a practical science.
The third is a point that someone made in a comment- that these traditions of spiritual wisdom are not just philosophy, they are a way of living your life.
True philosophy is like that. It is inseparable from how you live your life. But you don't have to follow it perfectly. No pressure. You aren't God. God will be perfect for you.
Indeed, that is part of living a true life of wisdom. To not put pressure on yourself, but simply try your best.
And that, too, is philosophy.
Anyway, no pressure. Choose your own life, just know that if you wish to find more, that more fulfilling things are out there.
Seek them in any of the great wisdom traditions. Buddhism, Taoism, Greek philosophy, Sufism, any of them.
God loves you!
Sincerely,
David S. Annderson
