What jazz guitar does: the possibilities of electric amplification

When electrical amplification was applied to the guitar, new possibilities were opened up.

One of these is the possibilities of loud sounds on the guitar. Rock guitar explores these possibilities.

But there is another set of possibilities opened up by electrical amplification.

Long-sustained notes.

On an acoustic guitar, the notes are brief, and fade quickly.

On an electric guitar, you can still get the beautiful sweet sounds of an acoustic guitar. But the notes can be sustained much longer.

Making possible sweet, long-lined melodies of sustained notes, like you could never play on an acoustic guitar.

It is these possibilities that jazz guitar explores.

In the hands of a master like Joe Pass, the result is sweet indeed!

God loves you!

Sincerely,

David S. Annderson
