Avengers: Endgame is the Biggest Tease in Hollywood History

But it was worth it.  For Iron Man I, for Iron Man II, for Avengers I and II, it was so worth it.

First of all, I want to apologize for being negative.  I don't like to write negative things.  But if I am to be a responsible critic, I should discourage these kinds of things.

Remember that this is just a review of a movie.  Nothing to get upset about.  I wish the Russo brothers all the best.  I am not upset.  I'm just reviewing a movie.

But while the movie was miserable, the series was great.

I should have known that Avengers: Endgame would be disappointing.  The Russo brothers have disappointed me before.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier was frustrating and painful, though if I had different tastes I would probably consider it a minor classic once I got past the first 40 minutes or so.

But Captain America: Civil War was based on an idea that reminded me of Jews at Aushwitz and black slaves in America.

Avengers: Infinity War was an amazing movie.  When I watched it in the theaters it was the best Marvel movie I had ever seen, save only for Black Panther.

Not anymore.

That was based on having faith that the Russo brothers would save the world in a satisfying way in Avengers: Endgame.

Then the Russo brothers proceeded to write themselves into a corner.

Not with Avengers: Infinity War.    There were a thousand ways the Russo brothers could have saved the world after Infinity War.

With the beginning of Endgame, by having Thanos destroy the infinity stones.

Then they proceeded to lead us through a 30 or 40 minute sulk, where we wallowed in it feeling sorry for ourselves.

Look, this was a natural reaction in the world of the movie.

This is how people mourn in real life, and if such a tragedy happened in real life, wallowing in it would be only natural.

But I don't turn to a fun superhero movie to sulk for a half hour.

Superhero movies are supposed to be fun.

Then they proceeded to save the world with the cop-out of time travel.

And then proceeded to end the movie with the most amazing action sequence in Marvel movie history.

The action sequence that climaxes the movie may have been incredible.

But the storytelling that led into it was miserable.

Avengers: Endgame had a captive audience because we had been hooked by Avengers: Infinity War.

Avengers; Endgame is the biggest tease in movie history.

Avengers: Infinity War is still an amazing movie.

But now it is a flawed tragedy.

Anyway, I'm sorry for being so negative!

It's just a movie, and I am only providing creative advice!  No hard feelings, and I wish the Russo brothers all the best!

After all, it was worth it.

For this was the final episode of a series.

And the series was so worth it.

For Iron Man I, for Iron Man II, for Avengers I and II, for the original Thor, for so much more.

Avengers: Endgame is like the final episode of Seinfeld.

Not that great- but the final chapter of a great series.

I will simply watch the first two Iron Mans, the first two Avengers movies, and the Spider-Man movies instead!

And Thor, and Captain America: The First Avenger, and the original Ant-Man movie!  So many classics!

To say nothing of the Black Panther franchise!

Thank you, Marvel!

God loves you!

Sincerely,

David S. Annderson
