Punishment is to Protect the Innocent

Saint Augustine said to Love the Sinner, Hate the Sin.

To have sympathy for sinners, while hating their actions.

I know this to be true.

For I read in Norman Davies' Europe what drove Hitler insane.

I cried like a baby.

The poor man- no wonder he went so crazy!

If we can have sympathy for Hitler, than Saint Augustine was right- all sinners deserve our love, even as we hate their sin.

Love the Sinner, Hate the Sin.

And so that brings us to punishment.

Punishment has one purpose.

To protect the innocent.

You don't put someone in jail to make them feel bad.

You put them in jail to deter other people from robbing people at gunpoint.

And you put them in jail to keep them from committing more crimes.

What is the best way to do this I don't know.

But I know the purpose.

Punishment has one sole purpose- to protect the innocent!

Food for thought!

Love the sinner, hate the sin, love the innocent with all your heart!

God loves you!

Sincerely,

David S. Annderson
